In an alarming report, eight cities in California have been identified as the most perilous in the nation for hit-and-run accidents, demonstrating a troubling trend that underscores the need for heightened awareness and strong adherence to road safety regulations.
Top-ranked Fresno has been named the leading city in the US for such incidents, with a disturbing 14.55% proportion of fatal traffic mishaps from 2017 through 2021 involving drivers who fled the scene. The city witnessed roughly 275 deadly accidents during that period, with hit-and-runs constituting 40 of these tragic occurrences.
Following closely, San Jose emerged as the second most hazardous city, with hit-and-run collisions comprising 13.98% of all fatal road incidents within the same timeframe. The data paints a grim picture, placing Santa Ana in third place, closely trailed by San Bernardino and Stockton, marking these cities as high-risk locations for hit-and-run fatalities.
The city of Los Angeles, despite its vast network of streets and highways, was not exempt from the list, ranking sixth. The capital city of Sacramento occupied the seventh slot, while the coastal city of San Diego took the eighth position, confirming the statewide nature of the problem. The report’s findings shed light on the crucial necessity for vigilance when driving or traversing near roadways.
