In the Pico-Robertson district of Los Angeles, the family of a pedestrian killed in a collision with a DoorDash driver has moved to escalate their lawsuit against the food delivery company, alleging gross negligence in their hiring practices. A driver, reportedly unfit for employment, struck the trio as they walked, fatally injuring one and causing severe harm to the other two.
The lawsuit was initiated after Bing Wang, a 51-year-old Chinese national, was struck and killed on June 7 while walking with his family near a Chase bank at the intersection of Pico and La Cienega boulevards. Following the impact, the vehicle smashed into the bank’s wall, bringing the chaos to a tragic conclusion.
Recent filings by the plaintiffs’ legal team in Los Angeles Superior Court request permission to introduce an additional claim focusing on negligent hiring, supervision, and retention against DoorDash. They argue that the driver, Vladimir Tishchenko, had minimal driving experience, only obtaining his license one and a half months before securing the job and had been employed for a meager month prior to the deadly occurrence. They claim his inexperience on California’s roads made him distinctly unsuitable for the role.
The complaint harshly criticizes DoorDash’s hiring procedures, suggesting it is merely a collection of cursory checks rather than a thorough review of a candidate’s qualifications.
