A fatal accident occurred when a vehicle plummeted from a cliffside in Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Canyon Road around 5:30 p.m., officials report.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene where the vehicle was discovered approximately 150 feet below the roadway, lodged on its side in dense brush. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Emergency crews conducted a technical descent to access and secure the crash site. A witness at the scene, William Mbema, described the moment he and others spotted the crash and rushed to assist, finding the vehicle obscured by heavy tree branches and the driver inside.
The exact cause of the crash has not been determined, and the identity of the victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. The location of the incident, roughly two miles north of Pepperdine University, is notorious for its challenging driving conditions.
