University Park, California was the site of a tragic incident on Sunday as a devastating collision on the I-10 Freeway resulted in one fatality and left seven individuals injured.
The multi-vehicle accident occurred in the westbound lanes near the Hoover Street ramps, with authorities being alerted around 3 p.m. California Highway Patrol officers are still investigating the sequence of events leading to the crash.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the emergency, with teams working to free an adult trapped in the debris. Once extricated, the individual’s status was not immediately clear.
Five of the injured parties were transported to local hospitals; their conditions were reported as ranging from serious to critical. Among those injured were a 29-year-old woman and four young boys, ages ranging from 3 months to 10 years old.
The deceased man’s identity has yet to be released, pending notification of next of kin. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Another individual received on-site medical attention but was not taken to the hospital.
Aerial footage from the scene captured by SkyCal revealed the extent of the wreckage, which included a pickup truck on its side and a severely damaged sedan, along with scattered debris across the freeway.
The investigation into the crash by the California Highway Patrol is causing traffic delays in the vicinity, with no clear indication of how long the disruptions may last.
