In Van Nuys on Friday, a tragic incident occurred when a motorcyclist collided head-on with a Metro bus on Hazeltine Avenue near Bessemer Street. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 12-year-old niece, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. The collision took place around 11 a.m., authorities said.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, but the specifics of what led to the unfortunate event have not been made public. The identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been disclosed. In response to the accident, a representative from Metro expressed the organization’s deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as to the injured individual. He emphasized that Metro is collaborating with the Los Angeles Police Department to understand the details of the collision and reaffirmed Metro’s commitment to safety for both its customers and the community.
Reports indicate that approximately a dozen passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the crash. Only one passenger on the bus sustained a minor injury. California law requires no minimum age for motorcycle passengers provided they wear a helmet and can reach the motorcycle’s footrests. The condition of the 12-year-old passenger is a poignant reminder of the importance of safety measures and regulations concerning motorcycle passengers.
