LOS ANGELES, CA — A tragic collision occurred on Thursday night in South Los Angeles resulting in the death of 22-year-old Maria Jarmaillo-Silva and injuring two others. The incident took place on Figueroa Street near 58th Street, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fatal two-vehicle accident happened at about 9:30 p.m. in the Vermont Square neighborhood. Two cars collided for reasons still under investigation, causing significant damage and trapping several occupants. Responders from the fire department arrived promptly and had to use hydraulic tools to extricate two trapped individuals from the wreckage.
Jarmaillo-Silva was found fatally injured at the scene and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Her 5-year-old son and the child’s 20-year-old father both sustained injuries. The boy, who suffered moderate injuries, was taken to the hospital. His father, found in serious condition, was also transported for medical treatment.
Traffic investigators have not disclosed the specifics leading up to the crash nor information about the second driver involved. They urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact the Los Angeles Police Department to assist with the ongoing investigation.
