In a high-speed chase that took place in North Hollywood, a vehicle pursuit climaxed when the offending driver’s car collided and erupted into flames last Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities reported that the incident began in the vicinity of Sheldon Street and Roscoe Boulevard at approximately 12:45 p.m., as officers from the Los Angeles Police Department pursued a gray BMW following a traffic violation.
The driver, who was previously involved in a near-pursuit scenario with police, had run a red light directly in the presence of patrolling officers. LAPD engaged in pursuit after the suspect exhibited a blatant disregard for a law enforcement attempt to stop the vehicle.
The chase concluded dramatically when the suspect’s BMW struck another vehicle on the 12000 block of W. Emelita Street, near Laurel Canyon Boulevard. The impact caused the suspect’s vehicle to catch fire, prompting a swift response from the Los Angeles Fire Department, who successfully doused the flames.
Both the suspect and the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision were transported to the hospital with the status of their conditions remaining undisclosed at this time.
The driver of the BMW is no stranger to pursuits involving the LAPD, as this marks the fourth instance of such an encounter, shared by an LAPD sergeant. With a history of vehicle-related offenses, the driver had been previously convicted of felony evading in both 2015 and 2017, resulting in incarceration.
