A Los Angeles City firefighter recruit tragically lost his life while assisting victims in a major collision involving multiple vehicles on the 101 Freeway in Studio City early Monday morning.
In a solemn acknowledgment, the Los Angeles City Fire Department stated, “We extend our deepest sympathy to immediate family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Details regarding the memorial service will be shared as they become available.” The department is mourning the loss of one of their own in the line of duty.
Around 10 a.m., a somber procession commenced, escorting the fallen recruit’s remains to the coroner’s office, marking the start of a city’s collective grief.
The calamitous incident took place at approximately 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway at Campo de Cahuenga. It involved several vehicles, including a trailer carrying a portable toilet, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A critical traffic advisory, a SigAlert, was implemented around 5:30 a.m., resulting in the closure of four lanes of traffic as investigative teams worked at the scene. The firefighter succumbed to his injuries on site, and his identity has been withheld until his next of kin have been notified.
