A series of tragic events spanning multiple locations in Southern California took the life of an infant and are believed to be interrelated, authorities confirmed on Monday. The incidents include a homicide in Woodland Hills, an infant’s death on the 405 Freeway near Culver City, and a fatal car crash in Redondo Beach.
Early Monday morning at approximately 7:35 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived at a residence on the 6200 block of Variel Avenue in Woodland Hills, where they discovered an unresponsive man in his 30s. The man was subsequently declared deceased at the scene.
The LAPD’s investigation into the man’s death led them to become involved with two other incidents that occurred prior to their arrival in Woodland Hills. Detectives are looking into a disturbing event that unfolded around 4:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway, near the Sepulveda Boulevard and Howard Hughes Parkway exit, where California Highway Patrol officers responded to alerts of a crisis involving two children.
Upon arrival at the freeway scene, authorities made a heart-wrenching discovery: a baby girl, estimated to be 5 or 6 months old, was found deceased in the roadway. A 9-year-old girl was located on the road’s shoulder with injuries that warranted medical attention; she was transported to a hospital with injuries described as minor to moderate.
