In Los Angeles, two individuals lost their lives in a violent three-vehicle collision in Baldwin Hills. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that the tragic event unfolded just before 3 p.m. on a Saturday at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Coliseum Street.
A Mercedes Benz, reportedly traveling at a high velocity, veered out of control, striking a vehicle poised to execute a left turn onto Coliseum Street. The impact caused the Mercedes to overturn and strike another car in the vicinity before coming to rest on its roof.
First responders declared both occupants of the Mercedes, an adult man and woman later identified as African-American, deceased at the scene. Their names have yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.
While the passengers in the additional involved vehicles sustained minor injuries, they were promptly treated by medical personnel on site.
Assistant Watch Commander Clarence Perkins of the LAPD commented on the perilous nature of the stretch of La Brea Avenue where the accident took place, noting the downhill road encourages speeding. Despite periodic speed enforcement measures, the absence of police often results in drivers exceeding the speed limit with potentially fatal consequences.
