LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. — An arrest has been made in connection with an alleged DUI-related crash in Laguna Hills that occurred on March 13th, resulting in serious injuries to three passengers. The incident took place on Paseo De Valencia near Los Alisos Boulevard.
The driver, 39-year-old William Ryan Martensen, faces charges after a collision between his black SUV and a white SUV that left a woman and two teenagers—ages 15 and 16—hospitalized. The collision, which happened around 6 p.m., involved a head-on impact that inflicted significant front-end damage on both vehicles.
The injured parties have been identified as Nidia Lazo-Berrelleza and her daughter Nathalie Berrelleza, along with Nathalie’s friend Alexya Garcia. Nidia was picking up the two teens from their high school water polo game at the time of the accident. A fundraising campaign has been initiated to assist with their medical expenses.
Police have brought forward four felony charges against Martensen, encompassing driving under the influence causing injury, driving the wrong way on a highway causing injury or death, illegal firearm possession by a felon, and illegal ammunition ownership. The driver also faces additional punishment for causing substantial bodily harm during the crash.
