SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana Police have taken 51-year-old Luis Duarte Ibarra into custody following a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on April 25, around 4:30 a.m., at the intersection of First Street and Sullivan Street. The suspect was apprehended on much 28, 2024.
The Santa Ana Police Department reports that Ibarra, a resident of Santa Ana, was driving westbound on First Street when he struck a pedestrian standing in the road. After the collision, Ibarra did not stop and continued to flee westbound. Upon arrival, officers discovered the male pedestrian unresponsive in the street. The victim was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Fire Authority personnel.
Later that Friday morning, at approximately 4:45 a.m., police located Ibarra in Garden Grove. He was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run. The investigation is ongoing, and it is not yet clear whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.
