An Orange County doctor has been sentenced to 15 years to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, cloaked as an accidental fall down the stairs. On March 15, 2024, 58-year-old Eric Scott Sills was given his sentence following a guilty verdict of second-degree murder in the death of 45-year-old Susann Sills. The critical evidence that influenced the court’s decision revealed that Susann’s death was a result of strangulation, contradicting Eric Sills’ report of an accidental fall.
The tragic incident unraveled on November 13, 2016, when Eric Sills contacted emergency services claiming to have found Susann’s lifeless body. Susann was supposedly discovered after she had fallen down the stairs, but the initial observations by the Orange County Coroner’s Office and later conclusions drawn from forensic analysis pointed towards a homicide, with injuries inconsistent with a fall.
Disturbingly, Susann had spent her last night in her daughter’s bedroom due to a migraine. It was in this room that investigators discovered evidence suggesting a violent struggle: bloodstains adorned the wall and curtains, and a clump of Susann’s hair was found – stark indicators of the grisly scene that unfolded.
