In a devastating incident in Orange County on Tuesday morning, a deadly combination of alcohol and recidivism resulted in a fatal accident and a subsequent police pursuit. At approximately 11 a.m., on North Tustin Street near East Walnut Avenue, a gray sedan with a driver previously convicted of multiple DUIs struck a pedestrian who later died from the injuries suffered during the collision.
According to the Orange Police Department’s initial investigation, the vehicle involved was operated by a 31-year-old man who attempted to flee the scene post-collision, notwithstanding the significant damages his car had sustained. Witnesses at the scene quickly reported the direction of the fleeing vehicle to the police, noting its distinctive condition after the incident. This eyewitness testimony allowed for the rapid identification and location of the suspect by authorities.
An immediate response by law enforcement led to the apprehension of the driver following a brief pursuit. The individual identified as the operator was detained not far from the crime scene.
