In a recent development in San Diego’s legal community, Gomez Trial Attorneys law firm founder John Gomez has decided to withdraw a lawsuit filed against the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, a local nonprofit legal association. The initial complaint included allegations of defamation and false accusations against Gomez by the organization and specific members.
The retraction of the lawsuit is described by Gomez as a tactical decision, as he plans to amend the legal claim with additional allegations and defendants. Despite the dismissal, he affirms the intent to refile at a later date, within the permissible timeframe defined by the statute of limitations.
The original lawsuit, filed in December, targeted the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and its leadership for purportedly orchestrating a series of defamatory statements. These included allegations of serial sexual harassment, which Gomez fervently denies. His firm, recognized as one of the most prominently Latino-founded and diversity-promoting practices in California, has been defended by Gomez as being wrongly targeted by these claims.
Unveiling a potential motive for the conflict, the lawsuit outlined what it characterized as a long-standing animosity stemming from Gomez’s past role as president of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. It suggested this background has led to a concerted effort to tarnish his reputation, including a prior ban from the association.
Gomez acknowledged that he has been the subject of two previous sexual harassment lawsuits.
