A 24-year-old Santa Ana man was killed when the car he was driving lost control and slammed into another vehicle on Coast Highway in Newport Coast, according to a news report.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred at Coast Highway near El Morro Elementary School and Reef Point Drive.  Officials said that witnesses reported that a Honda S2000 traveling at a high rate of speed lost control and crashed into oncoming traffic.  A Chevrolet Cruze driven by Lori Clinton, 47,  of Laguna Beach was hit head-on; Clinton was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with major injuries.

The Orange County Coroner has identified the driver of the Honda S2000 as Duy Nguyen, 24, of Santa Ana.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.
