A 17-year-old high school student was critically injured after being hit by a car while she was in a school crosswalk in Newport Beach, according to a news report.

Newport Beach police said that the unidentified victim was crossing the street from Newport Harbor High School when she was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling north on Irvine Avenue at Margaret Drive.  The student was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident; the intersection is located adjacent to the high school.  She was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana in critical condition.

Police arrested the driver of the Tahoe, Marnie J. Lippincott, 38, of Costa Mesa, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
