Three women were killed and two other women were injured when their Ford Excursion crashed and caught on fire while exiting the northbound I-5 freeway at Beach Boulevard, according to a news report.

Sara Flores, 40, Angela Pardo, 49, and Elda Nava-Mayo, 24, were all pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Excursion, Ruth NavaTorres, of Downey, and a 16-year-old female passenger, also of Downey, were both taken to UCI Medical Center with major injuries.

The California Highway Patrol said that NavaTorres apparently lost control of the Excursion when she was exiting northbound I-5 at Beach Boulevard.  The SUV hit a guard rail and rolled multiple times before winding up on its side and catching on fire.  The CHP said the initial investigation revealed the women were not wearing seat belts.
