A three-year-old girl was killed and her mother was critically injured after they were hit by a driver in a stolen car in an Anaheim pedestrian accident, according to a news report.

The California Highway Patrol reported that Lady Audree Rebecca Hernandez, 26, was walking with her daughter, Miranda Palacios, 3, in a stroller in the crosswalk at Gilbert Street and Guinida Lane when they were struck by a stolen 1995 Nissan Maxima.  Mother and daughter were both taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange in critical condition; the daughter died at the hospital.

Witnesses say the male driver continued north on Gilbert Street; police later found the abandoned stolen vehicle and conducted an intensive five-hour search for the driver, but failed to find him.  Area residents told police that a number of accidents had occurred at the crosswalk in recent years, and that efforts to improve safety have been hindered by the fact that one side of the street is in Anaheim and another side is in an unincorporated area of Orange County.

Anyone with information about this deadly pedestrian hit-and-run accident are asked to contact the CHP at 714-892-4426 or 949-559-7888.
