Two Orange County Men Suffer Major Injuries in a Single-Car Crash on Highway 33

Two Orange County men suffered major injuries in a single-vehicle car crash on Highway 33 above Ojai Saturday, authorities said.

The accident was reported around 10:51 a.m. on the rural state route in Los Padres National Forest territory, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred several miles north of the Rose Valley Road turnoff.

A 58-year-old Cypress man was driving a 2015 Audi R8 sports car northbound on Highway 33, also called Maricopa Highway, the CHP reported. He was going too fast when approaching a left turn in the road and lost control, officials said. The Audi hit a dirt embankment and came to rest about 150 feet from the road, down an embankment. Both men were wearing seat belts, according to the CHP report.

The driver suffered double-leg paralysis and a compound ankle fracture and was airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center, officials said.

His passenger, a 58-year-old San Clemente man, suffered a spinal fracture and a brain bleed, the CHP said. He was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.

The crash remained under investigation as of Monday morning.
