Thirty-two-year-old Ayoleone Bufkin, of Fullerton, is fighting for her life and has undergone multiple surgeries, including having her foot amputated, after being struck by a hit-and-run driver who crashed through an apartment building in Santa Ana.

Police are searching for the driver, who according to investigators, was speeding in a minivan and plowed into the first-floor apartment of the Vista Del Rio apartment complex. Two women were visiting their cousin and napping on a couch. One of the victims, Ayoleone Bufkin, was pinned beneath the van. The driver and any other passengers who may have been in the minivan, ran off.

“Her pelvis was in pieces,” Bufkin’s mother told reporters. “They had to piece it back together. Her intestines were on the outside of her body and they had to put them back in. Her leg was broken. Her left leg didn’t have blood going to it for over 24 hours, so they had to amputate her foot. She has a stent there to try to keep the rest of the leg alive.”
