A car struck a six-year-old boy riding a scooter in front of his home in Fullerton and police say his helmet probably saved his life, according to a news report.

Fullerton police said the boy drove his scooter out of his driveway onto West Ash Ave. and was struck by a car.  They noted that because of parked cars on both sides of the driveway, the driver was probably unable to see the boy.  Police said the car was traveling at 25 mph and the impact caused the boy’s helmet to shatter in several pieces.  They said that the boy rolled up onto the car’s hood and into the windshield, and if he had not been wearing a helmet, he would have probably sustained serious injuries or died.

The boy was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment of moderate injuries; the driver of the car was not cited.
