A 53-year-old Costa Mesa woman has died after her car hit a mattress lying on the 55 freeway and three other vehicles ran into her, according to a news report.

The California Highway Patrol said that Cynthia Brock was traveling north on the 55 freeway near Dyer Road in Santa Ana when her Toyota Silica hit a mattress in the carpool lane.  The car then hit the center divider and was struck by three different vehicles.

CHP investigators said that the first vehicle to hit the victim’s car was a Ford Freestar van driven by Sherwin Sabzerou, 19, of Irvine.  He abandoned his vehicle and ran away on foot; Sabzerou was later found at home and arrested for DUI.

The driver and passenger of another car were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment of their injuries.
