A pickup truck driven by Christopher Solis, 22, of Anaheim, veered onto a sidewalk in busy downtown Fullerton at 1:50 a.m. Sunday morning, running into a crowd of people and injuring 10.

The red Toyota Tacoma he was driving even trapped some people beneath the vehicle and witnesses scrambled to get the truck off the victims.

Fullerton police stated that they believed Solis to have been driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony DUI causing great bodily injury.

A witness stated that several men who witnessed the crash tried to get Solis to come out of the truck, but he resisted, then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the tree.

Ten victims were transported to local trauma centers with injuries ranging from moderate to critical life-threatening. Police stated on Sunday night that several of the people who were struck remained hospitalized, but all were expected to survive.

Police and Fullerton firefighters arriving at the scene near 100 W. Santa Fe Ave. found the Tacoma on top of several of the victims, and Good Samaritans helped the first responders lift the truck enough to free those trapped beneath it. The victims were treated at the scene before they were transported to the hospital.
