DUI Driver Arrested in French Valley Crash That Killed 1, Injured 3

A 59-year-old Winchester man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and DUI following a four-vehicle crash that killed a Winchester woman and injured three other people.

The California Highway Patrol said that Elvis Tate was driving a Mitsubishi Galant north on Winchester Road when he ran a red light at Benton Road and crashed into a 2016 Honda Civic that was making a left turn on green from Benton onto Winchester Road. Both vehicles spun and crashed into two other vehicles that were stopped at the light in the southbound lanes of Winchester Road.

The driver of the Honda Civic — Ashley Alcaraz, 27, also of Winchester — was killed instantly. Her 28-year-old male passenger sustained major injuries and was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment. The drivers of the other two vehicles sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Tate suffered moderate injuries and was treated and released before he was arrested.
