An 18-year-old Ventura woman who was a passenger in a Ford SUV has died after the driver of the vehicle lost control on Highway 101 in Ventura.

The California Highway Patrol said that the driver of a 2004 Ford SUV traveling north on Highway 101 lost control of the vehicle near Padre Juan Canyon Road. The SUV drifted to the left into a dirt center median then swerved to the right across all lanes to the right shoulder, where it hit a hill and flipped onto its roof before going down an embankment into a drainage ditch.

Lucille Lu, one of two passengers in the SUV, died at the scene. The driver, identified only as a Placentia resident, and another passenger from Westminster suffered critical injuries. Both were taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.

The investigation into the fatal SUV crash is ongoing.
