Owners of model year 2009 and 2010 Honda Fit subcompacts are being urged to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer to replace parts in the engine that can break and cause damage, noise or stalling, according to the automaker.

More than 97,000 Honda Fit cars are involved in the product recall, which involves a part called a lost motion spring within the engine valvetrain.  According to Honda, these parts are compressed by the rocker arms in normal engine use, and may bend or break over time, resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing the engine to stall or become damaged.

To fix the problem, Honda dealers will inspect and replace the spring assemblies in the Honda Fit subcompacts if necessary, at no charge to the car owner.
