Two mothers and four children have been killed after a big-rig crashed into their minivan on I-5 near Gorman, California, according to a news report.

The California Highway Patrol said that the minivan was pulled over on the right shoulder of I-5 after it was involved in a minor accident with a BMW. A semi-truck traveling 55 mph slammed into the back of the minivan, sending it crashing down an embankment where it burst into flames.

The two husbands — Aaron Hon Wing Ng, 34, of San Francisco and Wei Xiong Li, 45, of Daly City — were severely burned after trying to rescue their wives and children from the burning van. They were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their burn injuries.

According to the CHP, the big-rig driver — Richard Lopez, 60, of Walnut, California — and CHP officers tried to rescue the women and children, but the fire was too hot for any life-saving efforts.
