Katherine Hampton, 54, of Lake Forest has been killed in an Irvine car accident that seriously injured her daughter and two grandchildren, according to a news report.

Irvine police said that Hampton was driving a Chevrolet Cruze with her adult children and two grandchildren, ages 2 and 7, when she became involved in a three-car crash near the intersection of Muirlands Boulevard and Alton Parkway.  Details on the cause of the collision were not released.

Hampton was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her daughter and grandchildren were taken to the hospital in serious condition.  Initial reports said that the grandchildren were in cardiac arrest.

The driver of a black Mustang involved in the crash fled the scene on foot and was later arrested by Irvine police in Costa Mesa.  He has been identified as Alec Scott Abraham, 20, of Costa Mesa.  A woman driving a Honda Civic who was also involved in the crash was hospitalized for a brief time and released.
