Even with new safety measures in place, a New Year’s Eve “rave” event at the Los Angeles Sports Arena sent 17 attendees to the hospital and another 62 were treated onsite by Los Angeles Fire Dept. personnel for a wide variety of injuries and illnesses, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times.

The annual Together as One event drew over 45,000 and promoters say that new safety measures were put in place after last year’s event resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man from a drug overdose and the hospitalization of 18 other attendees.  Those attending this year’s event were required to be over the age of 18, and both the police and emergency medical personnel onsite were increased significantly.

Los Angeles police reported 25 arrests, mostly drug-related, as well as 15 hospitalizations for drug-related medical emergencies.
