Thirty-five families from Paradise, CA, which was almost completely wiped out by the Camp Fire, have filed suit against Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), alleging that the fire was caused by substandard maintenance of power equipment.
Although investigators have not named an official cause of the fire that devastated Paradise, this is not the first lawsuit aimed at PG&E for causing it. Speculation surrounding PG&E’s culpability began when the company released a report that a high-voltage power line malfunctioned in the general vicinity of where the fire began.
The lawsuit, which was filed Thursday in Butte County Superior Court, alleges that PG&E not only failed to maintain it’s power equipment, but also failed to reduce flammable vegetation around it.
The Camp Fire started on Nov. 8 , 2018, destroyed 14,500 homes and business and caused the death of 88 people.
