Wednesday saw Tesla file an interesting lawsuit against former employee, Martin Tripp, claiming that Tripp hacked Tesla’s computer system and moved data to unnamed third parties. While it has not been officialy confirmed, this lawsuit is likely tied to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s recent statement that he believes an ex-worker had “sabotaged” the company.
The suit names Tripp, a former process technician at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada, as having “unlawfully hacked the company’s confidential and trade secret information and transferred that information to third parties.” It posits that he had snuck “hacking software” onto the computers of three different employees, which would regularly send out confidential data to the unnamed third parties.
Tesla is also claiming that Tripp shared inaccurate information with the media, which included false claims that some Tesla Model 3 cars had been fitted with punctured battery cells as well as exaggerated claims about the amount of scrap and waste the company produced.
Tripp denies all of the accusations and claims that he is simply a whistle-blower with no interests beyond those of public safety.
