A young mother from Moreno Valley, California, her four-year-old daughter, and a 78 year old Newport Beach man remain hospitalized with serious injuries after a major crash on I-405 that occurred around 8:30 the morning of October 23^rd.

Ana Maria Flores, the young mother from Moreno Valley, was moving into the northbound lane of I-405 at Culver Drive when she lost control of her Jeep on the rainy freeway and skidded into the middle lanes. A semi-truck then hit the Jeep, sending it into the median. The truck, estimated to be traveling within the speed limit, proceeded to jackknife, hitting three other cars. The big rig first struck a vintage 1929 Ford being driven by 78 year old Salvatore Giannulli, who is among the hospitalized, and then hit two vehicles stopped at the shoulder. The stopped cars included a California Highway Patrol vehicle that was engaged in a traffic stop.

Two other men suffered minor to moderate injuries, and the CHP officer was uninjured. A dog however, died in the crash.
