A tragic accident Friday morning saw a big rig lose a tire which then jumped the divider of the 5 freeway in San Clemente hitting a Tesla and killing its driver, Thu Nguyen.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident log shows that a call about the deadly big rig accident came in at about 8:53 a.m..

The big rig was travelling on the southbound side of the 5 freeway just south of Avenida Magdalena when its loose tire bounced over to northbound lanes hitting the red Tesla driven by 38-year-old, Thu Nguyen.

Coroner officials were called to the scene at about 9:18 a.m. and a SigAlert was issued soon after.

According to CHP reports from the scene, the white container truck that lost its tire pulled over onto the shoulder and stopped by the Cristianitos Road off-ramp and was going to be inspected.
