Tom Thomas was riding his bicycle in Montclair when he was struck from behind by a motorcycle and tragically killed.

Thomas, 68, was on his bike in the left-hand turn pocket of Monte Vista Avenue, waiting to turn onto Richton Street near the Montclair TransCenter on Thursday, Feb. 24, when a motorcycle hit him from behind.

Thomas suffered numerous broken bones and internal injuries. He underwent surgery at a hospital but succumbed to his injuries from the deadly bicycle accident on Saturday, Feb. 26.

A philanthropist and pillar of his community, Thomas was remembered by the Upland City Council when it adjourned on Monday, February 28, where he served from 1990 – 2010.

“Our community is in a better place because of Tom’s contributions and we thank him for those,” Upland Mayor Bill Velto said.

Thomas leaves behind his wife, Ann, and three daughters.

On Saturday, Ann Thomas wrote her husband had died and asked the public to donate blood and give to the charities he supported: Foothill Family Shelter, Friends of Upland Animal Shelter, Inland Valley Repertory Theatre, Ophelia’s Jump, and The Samaritan Counseling Center.

For the past two decades, Tom Thomas served on the West End Consolidated Water Co. board as well as the San Antonio Water Co. board.
