A motorcyclist was tragically killed n in Riverside Thursday afternoon, Feb. 24 following a collision with a Ford Transit Connect Van.

According to police, the driver of the van was uninjured in the crash, which happened at the intersection of Orange Street and University Avenue.

Police report that first responders were dispatched to the scene around 2:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a major injury accident involving a motorcyclist.

When officials arrived, they found a motorcyclist down in the intersection suffering from major traumatic injuries. The rider’s motorcycle and a white 2016 Ford Transit Connect Van were also found within the intersection.

The critically injured motorcyclist was transported to nearby Riverside Community Hospital by ground ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away. ⁣⁣

The motorcycle accident victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of the person’s family.

Based on the circumstances, members of RPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Investigating officers determined that just before the collision the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on University Avenue approaching Orange Street, while the van was traveling westbound on University Avenue approaching the same intersection.

Evidence at the scene indicated that as the two vehicles entered the intersection they collided, ejecting the rider from the motorcycle.

The driver of the van, described only as a 23-year-old Riverside County resident, remained at the scene and is continuing to cooperate with RPD’s investigation.
