A La Palma woman has died after the van she was driving was hit by a motorcyclist who ran a red light and also died in the accident in Long Beach, according to a news report.

The California Highway Patrol said that Marianne Krone, 65, was driving a minivan west on Wardlow Road when a motorcycle driven by Frank Aldana Escalante, 23, of Lakewood, ran a red light at an intersection near Norwalk Blvd. and crashed into the van.

CHP investigators said that Escalante had been involved in a police pursuit just minutes prior to the crash.  A CHP officer attempted to pull him over on southbound I-605 for speeding but Escalante did not stop.  He exited on Spring Street and turned into an industrial complex, ending the pursuit.  A few minutes later, he ran the red light at Wardlow Road and crashed into Krone’s minivan.
