A collision between an Amtrak train and a county water truck in Moorpark, Southern California, led to the derailment of three train cars, according to authorities. The truck driver suffered critical injuries and was transported to a trauma center with a head injury.

Following the train accident, three out of the seven cars of the train derailed, as confirmed by Ventura County Fire Department Captain Brian McGrath in an interview with the Associated Press. Fortunately, the derailed train cars remained upright on tracks situated near an orchard and open areas of land.

Fourteen passengers on the train sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment. The circumstances surrounding the crash and the actions of the truck driver are still under investigation. Fortunately, most passengers were able to exit the train on their own or with the help of first responders.

The incident occurred when the train, en route from Los Angeles to Seattle, struck the water truck obstructing the tracks. Amtrak is cooperating with local authorities in conducting a thorough investigation. The situation was swiftly brought under control, with firefighters extinguishing a small fire at the scene. Moorpark, a city of approximately 35,000 residents, is located about 50 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
