Fatal Multi-Vehicle Car Accident Causes Traffic Disruption on Interstate 10 in Upland

On Sunday night, a tragic car accident unfolded on Interstate 10 in Upland, involving several vehicles and resulting in significant traffic congestion as emergency responders attended to the injured and authorities initiated an investigation.

According to Chris Gorman, the incident commander for the San Bernardino County Fire Department, one person tragically lost their life at the scene, while another individual with life-threatening injuries required extrication from a severely damaged vehicle. They, along with two others with minor injuries, were promptly transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s trauma unit.

Additional individuals with potential injuries received on-site treatment and declined hospitalization.

The accident was first reported in the official log of the California Highway Patrol shortly after 8 p.m. Initial reports suggested the involvement of up to 10 vehicles; however, some of them may have sustained minor damage or belonged to witnesses and good Samaritans who stopped to assist. Approximately five or six vehicles had occupants with potential injuries.

The deceased individual was driving alone, and further details about their identity are currently unavailable.

At 9:19 p.m., the coroner was summoned, and a SigAlert, indicating a major closure, was issued at 9:32 p.m.

By shortly before 10 p.m., the injured had been transported for medical care, and the scene was handed over to the highway patrol for further investigation.

At 10:05 p.m., all westbound lanes were reopened, gradually restoring normal traffic flow.
