A 23-year-old man has been killed and five other people have been injured in a Hemet car accident that may have been caused by a drunk driver.
According to the Hemet Police Department, officers were called to the scene of an accident involving a gray Ford Focus sedan and a blue Chevrolet pickup truck on Mountain Avenue, just west of Soboba Road in Hemet. Investigators said it appears the Ford crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and struck the Chevrolet pickup, causing it to roll over.
A passenger in the Ford — Timothy Gibbons, 23, of Hemet — died shortly following the crash. The Ford driver was seriously injured but is expected to survive. The Chevrolet driver and three passengers in that vehicle were also injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Hemet police said that it appears that alcohol was a contributing factor to the fatal car accident; the investigation is ongoing.
