A flight instructor was trying to help one of his students when he accidentally walked into the propeller of the student’s plane and was killed on the job. Apparently the student was having a problem with the cockpit canopy of his Piper Sport Aircraft. When thirty year old flight instructor, Michael Costales, left his own aircraft to help the student secure his canopy, he somehow walked right into the plane’s propeller.

Costales was actually the head flight instructor at the Beverly Flight Center, and had worked there for ten years. His years of experience on the job lead one to question if proper safety measures were in place at the flight center, and if so, why would such an experienced pilot make such a critical mistake?
