In a significant transit accident in Los Angeles, a Metro Rail train collided with a University of Southern California bus in the Exposition Park area, resulting in multiple injuries. The incident occurred at the intersection of Watt Way and Exposition Boulevard around noon on a busy Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The crash was the result of the USC shuttle bus veering into the path of an oncoming southbound Metro E Line train, as reported by Metro officials. The force of the collision prompted a substantial emergency response by local authorities.
The Los Angeles Fire Department dispatched multiple units to the scene, where firefighters and paramedics worked diligently to assess and treat the victims. As of Tuesday afternoon, the LAFD confirmed that a total of 55 individuals were involved in the incident, receiving varying degrees of medical attention.
Amongst the injured, two individuals were reported to be in critical condition and were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care. An additional 16 people, suffering from less severe injuries, were also taken to the hospital in fair condition. Remarkably, at least 37 passengers involved in the collision were evaluated by medical personnel and were able to be treated and released at the scene without the need for hospitalization.
Further details provided by emergency services revealed that the majority of the hospitalized individuals, numbering 14, were passengers on the Metro train at the moment of impact.
