HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A fatal accident occurred when a police vehicle involved in a multi-car crash struck and killed a pedestrian on Monday afternoon at the intersection of Gower Street and Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood.
The tragic incident took place at approximately 4 p.m. on April 29, resulting in the pedestrian’s death and injuries to six others. The Los Angeles Police Department stated that the individuals injured sustained non-lethal injuries and were promptly treated.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred as an LAPD cruiser with deputies onboard used the vehicle’s horn to navigate through the traffic at the northbound lanes of Gower Street. It was during this action that a vehicle heading west on Santa Monica Boulevard collided with the police cruiser, which then spiraled out of control, hitting the pedestrian, a white Mercedes, and potentially, an additional vehicle.
The pedestrian, unfortunately, was pinned underneath the police cruiser. Emergency medical technicians from the Los Angeles Fire Department rushed to the scene to extricate the individual. Despite being taken to the hospital and receiving critical care, the pedestrian succumbed to the inflicted injuries.
LAPD is conducting a thorough investigation to conclude which party is responsible for the fatal collision. The authorities have yet to make any fault determinations public.
