In Orange County, a former Pepperdine University law student has been convicted of second-degree murder in connection with a fatal DUI accident that occurred in Yorba Linda on August 3, 2017.
Richard Lindwall III, 34, exhibited a blood-alcohol concentration four times over the permissible limit during the time of the crash. This incident claimed the life of 41-year-old Carlos Mendez due to injuries sustained upon impact.
Authorities state that on the evening in question, Lindwall was en route to his residence, traveling at speeds exceeding 90 mph along La Palma Avenue. Losing control around a curve, he collided head-on with the vehicle driven by Mendez.
The collision was so severe it caused the victim’s car to lose its front axle and the engine became detached. At the crash site, officials discovered evidence of alcohol consumption in Lindwall’s vehicle, including broken beer bottles.
