A 16-year-old girl has been killed and six other people were injured when two cars crashed and rolled over in Silverado, according to a news report.
The California Highway Patrol said that two Honda Civics that were carrying a group of friends on their way to Black Star Canyon crashed and rolled over while traveling south on Santiago Canyon Road. One of the drivers, Antonio Escamillo, 20, of Irvine, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The other driver, Julias Isaac, 20, of Irvine, was in the lead car and said that an animal ran across the road in front of him, causing him to brake hard. This caused Escamillo to brake and swerve, sending his car across several lanes and down an embankment, where it hit a tree. Marie Johnson, 16, of Irvine, was ejected and died at the scene. Other passengers in Escamillo’s car – a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl – had minor injuries. Isaac and his two passengers also suffered minor injuries.
